Palio Rules & Miscellaneous Activities
Sicilian’s Revenge Palio di Siclia Rules (Throughout Saturday)
To win the Palio di Sicilia and win the prize, your team must earn the most points. You will receive a colored band when you troll in which will be your site token and the color will indicate which Contrada you are on. (It is possible that you my be able to bribe those at troll to be on a certain Contrada, but the autocrats cannot catch you doing so.)
There are many ways to earn points.
Participation in an activity earns your team 1 point.
Participation in a competition earns your team 1 point.
Victors of each of the competitions will earn their team 5 points.
Displaying heraldry earns your team 2 points.
Other points may be allotted at the discretion of the autocrats.
You must tell Lady Onóra Inghean Ui Domhnaill you have participated (and in some case give her your game token). Autocrats (Mistress Anne Grey and Lady Onóra) will have the final adjudication on the winner of the day.
Fabric Swap (Mistress Anne Greye)
Do you have fabulous fabric that has been languishing in your stash for a while? Well we have a solution for that! Mistress Anne will host a Dirty Sancta fabric swap. Here are the rules:
- No pieces less than three yards unless it is truly to die for.
- Each participant will draw a number
- Number 1 may select from all the available fabric.
- Each number in turn may either select from the stash or may take fabric from someone else until everyone has had a turn.
- At the end, the first person has the privilege of either keeping what they have or swapping with any player they desire.
- If we have more fabric than players, we will then have random number drawings for the remainder among gentles who brought more than 1 piece. So if you bring three, you’ll go home with three new treasures!
- No one goes home with the fabric they brought!
Card Games (Throughout the Day)
Lord Sasson della Sancta Victoria will be hosting two hand-illustrated card games of strategy and probability at this year’s Sicilian’s Revenge. The person who wins the most games from my “parlor” will, in addition to earning extra points for their contrade, receive 14oz/396g of white gold.
Secret Letters (2-4 players)
Object: Someone has tried to assassinate the Queen, and she suspects her spies have double-crossed her. You are one of her spies, trying to get a secret letter to the Queen that will prove your innocence. Unfortunately, she has locked herself in the palace, so you must rely on intermediaries to carry your message before an assassin can reach her first.
During your game, you hold one secret card in your hand. This is who currently carries your secret for the Queen. Make sure that the person closest to the Queen holds your letter at the end of the day, so it reaches her first!
The Dark Anachronist (2 or 4 players)
Object: Lord Sasson has been hired to assassinate you and a few of your friends. He has decided to pit you against each other in a deadly game of survival for his own twisted amusement. May the odds be ever in your favor!
You’ll have a deck of cards containing some Poisons. You play the game by putting the deck face down and taking turns drawing cards until someone draws a Poison.
When that happens, that person dies and they are out of the game. This process continues until there’s only one player left, who wins the game.
And all of the other cards will lessen your chances of being poisoned.
(For example: You could use am Epiphany card to peek at the top few cards in the Draw Pile. If that reveals a Poison you could then use a Evade card to end your turn and avoid drawing it.)
If you want to find coins for gambling, locate Sigrid Schreiber. She will be helping with wagering. Wager on the who the victorious Contrada will be! Wager on who will win the Giddy-up! Any and all wagers are encouraged.
Wager on everything and anything – just be ware of possible civic corruption and shady characters. Bribes may or accepted or rejected for any boons throughout the day.
